We are able to fix or diagnose all windows based computers, be they laptop or desktop. In both types we are able to diagnose hardware or software. If it is a software issue, we will apply the necessary fixes (installations of programs, re-installation of your windows, or getting any kind of malicious code off of your computer system). If it is a hardware issue, we can recommend the necessary parts and install them. If the problem is not an efficient fix (too expensive), we do not charge for diagnosing the problem. We will be in contact with you before applying a fix that we have not discussed with you.

When you have multiple computers in your home, wouldn’t it be nice if you didn’t have to transfer data from one to the other by burning it to CD or using a flash drive? Often we see internet issues such as no connectivity. We begin troubleshooting this by making sure that your computer is communicating as it should be. Also, we will bring in a working machine that is proven to have connectivity at our location. We do not work on external equipment such as your modem, although we can do basic troubleshooting steps to try to find where the problem lies.

Every day there are new viruses and spyware out there just waiting to get into your computer. It can be a little overwhelming to think of all the possibilities. But we take the overwhelming factor out of the repair for you.
A virus is a piece of malicious code designed to make your computer act unexpectedly. Things like shutting down, crashing, and pop-ups can all be examples of viruses. They can be more or less severe. While we all like to think that our anti-virus will protect us in all cases, sometimes it’s just not true. They try their best and some are better than others but when it comes right down to it, well how can they keep track of all the new ones coming out until its been reported to them?
Spyware is code that has been placed in your computer to help someone gather information on you; sometimes malicious but sometimes not. It gathers information like your internet activity and sends that information back to someone. This code does not generally have your permission to do this and it is using your internet connection to send this information.
For us, removing these nasty little bits of code is an invigorating challenge. Sometimes, because of the way the code has attached itself, it is more cost efficient to back up your data and re-install Windows. We do not replace your anti-virus but consider ourselves a great supplement to help them along. We spend time researching the anti-virus and anti-spyware programs so that we can make informed recommendations as to what software will help you the most. Also, we promote custom imagining to help this process.
Remote Assistance
Remote assistance is exactly as it sounds, we can come into your computer remotely. To explain a little further it is a program that allows us to work on your computer, in your home, from ours.
There is a link below that allows you to download a receiver program from this web site. From that point, through a password protected system we are able to hook up to your computer over the internet. When the connection is made we can work on your computer as though it were right in front of us. This allows us to take care of some of your issues without you even having to leave the comfort of your home or office.
This is a one time only operation. Once you have downloaded the software and made payment, you will have to send us the User ID and Password. At that point we can make connection with your computer and resolve the issue. After the issue has a resolution we will disconnect from your machine and will no longer be able to access your computer. You can at that point delete the application that you downloaded. If there is another issue that occurs in the future we will then have to begin the process again.
Custom Imaging
Do you remember a time when your computer was so full of viruses or spyware or any kind of malware that you couldn’t use it? Do you remember how much it cost you to get it fixed? Didn’t you wish that you could just go back in time and not downloaded that software or surfed that site? Well we have the solution for you.
Custom imagining!!! What we do is put your computer at its prime working state. Then we take a snap shot of it that you can load at any given time. This helps you repair your own computer without having to come back to us to be charged again. You are able to return your computer to the exact software state that it was in when it left us. We provide a tutorial to help you do it all on your own. By following this, your data stays safe and you do not get trapped in the vicious circle of having to return for repair on a regular basis.
In general, if the image won’t load, we can fairly quickly diagnose the issue as a hardware problem. This means a quicker return to you. Software related problems are approximately 90% of computer issues. If we can help you fix these yourself then you are happier with both your monetary savings, as well as the ability to be more independent from your technician.
Because of the way we set up your computer, you are able to re-do your operating system without having to back up your data. However, we STRONGLY encourage you to keep a regular back up because you never know when the unforeseen may happen.
Hardware and Software
We can install software for your needs. We do some research for basic computer software and can make recommendations. If you have a specialized program we can install it and show you where to access information on how to use it to do what you bought it to do. We also have a set of tools that we use when doing virus removal that can be purchased and installed on your computer for your future use.
Hardware installations are another area that makes The Computer Guy happy. There is nothing like making a computer faster or giving it more storage. Increasing the ability of your computer gives us great joy. We can go get the part for you, install it and find the software necessary. Changing out parts is something that we take very seriously. If the parts that you want to put into your computer are better suited to a different machine we will inform you of that. We do not just install things without making sure that it is worth it to you. For example, we will not put a brand new hard drive into a computer that is old and having trouble in other areas. It would make more sense at that point to consider a newer system. In that scenario we would discuss with you our recommendations and what suits your needs the best.

Data Recovery

You call The Computer Guy! We can do data recovery from hard drives, smart cards, floppy discs, and external drives. There are various levels of data recovery, which in turn means the prices vary as well.
The most important thing is to make sure your data is regularly backed up so that you never need this service. Unfortunately, things happen and we don’t always get around to backing up. If this is your situation it is important to get your data recovery started as soon as you notice failure in your computer. The sooner we can get to it the more cost effective it is for you.
If you are noticing failure of your hard drive, it’s essential to try to get to that data as soon as possible. The more times you boot up after you notice failure the more likely that it will become a difficult process to recover.
